Richard Beland is a distinguished Canadian music photographer and educator based in Sarnia, Ontario. Originally pursuing Mechanical Engineering, his passion for photography led him to change his career path, dedicating four years to studying the art of photography.
After graduating, Richard spent over two decades in Toronto, honing his craft within the city’s vibrant music scene. His impressive portfolio includes a diverse range of artists, from international icons like Coldplay, Aerosmith, the Rolling Stones, and AC/DC to Canadian legends such as The Tragically Hip and Nickelback. Richard’s work extends beyond capturing live performances, encompassing studio portraits and corporate photography as well.
Richard’s expertise extends into real estate photography, where his skills in visual storytelling enhance property presentations, aiding homeowners and developers in attracting potential buyers and renters.
In addition to his photography career, Richard is a dedicated educator. He coordinates and leads Lambton College’s Digital Photography Program in Sarnia, Ontario, a two-year diploma program he was commissioned to develop. Passionate about nurturing the next generation of visual storytellers, he enthusiastically shares his extensive knowledge and experience.
Moreover, Richard has ventured into fine art photography and preservation. Utilizing scanning and printing techniques developed from his traditional darkroom experiences in the late ’80s, he now uses digital technology to ensure the enduring legacy of visual art.
